I took the SD card out of my camera and put it in my card reader on my Windows machine and couldn't find any of the photos I'd taken today even though some older photos were still on there.
I'm a photographer and had a session with a model today in the studio. I just lived through a real life nightmare. It can waste a lot of time and to destroy your data further. It can't recover formatted drives, it can't recover file system corruption. It's a partition table manipulation tool with some very rudimentary on deletion capabilities on a few file systems. Some people seem to have this impression that it's some kind of "elite" pro-level program, that can accomplish miracles, but none of that is true. People come in asking for help with it, and they're trying to do something dumb with it, but they get all ticked off at us when we tell them that it's not an appropriate tool. They're drawn in by the fact that it is free, and don't seem to understand what it really is and what it really is not. Photorec's companion tool (Testdisk) is a huge headache in this community, largely because people try to do things with it that it isn't capable of doing.
R-Photo would have done even better for you, and it is free.
And that's great that it helped you, but it doesn't do very good things in most cases that people use it.
